Fonts

These are some of the fonts I found and liked. I already have an idea of what genre of music festival I want to do and I think these fonts will suit it.

idea

I’m going to do a festival poster based around Dubstep music.

I want it to look very techy and futuristic, with a club light sort of background, dark and bright lights.

I want to use big blocky faded type of text for the heading and the main writing to look electro. ( similar to fonts on mood board )

I will search up similar posters to see the type of style other festivals use and find cd covers and videos of bands who specialize in that music.

I am going to call the festival, “BRISDUB 14”
I will draw a few different ideas i have, find out what i like and what goes think well. i will mix and match the ideas  to make the final version on the computer.

The style of dubstep based artwork, as shown above consists of dark colours mixed with a few bright, glowing colours ( like club lights ).
It can have a techy look to it, which suits the genre as most dubstep is made on computers.

With this poster i added 2 ideas into one and added a few extra ideas into it, like the arms of the crowd from the lettering.

Design Report - Damon Ginters

Designing these posters was fun to make and I learnt a few new techniques when making them that became very useful.

One of the things I learnt to do was how to make the backgrounds fade into two different colours, which I used in both of my final designs.

I have learnt that its best to use as little fonts as possible which I did with my second poster, only using two type fonts.

When I was researching posters I noticed that the ones that used more bright colours caught my eye more than others, so I used more bright and noticeable colours when designing my final posters.

I sadly enough didn’t get to do as much research as I would have liked to do as I wasn’t able to do any over the holidays because I had no Wi-Fi for a month, but I did do my best when coming back to college to catch up.

When a was able to do research however I searched up some posters. I chose music festivals so that’s what kind of posters I searched. I tried to keep it in the Bristol area and found a few what I altogether liked and some which I liked certain aspects.

I wanted to base my festival posters around Dubstep and researched into two things, type fonts that went with the genre and dubstep inspired images which were put into a moodboard.

I used the research I did to help me within the designing, using a few of the fonts and using the images I acquired to inspire me.

I drew a few ideas I had mixing up a few of the images around dubstep I found and converted them into a poster look, putting my own spin to it.

I chose two for my final posters and started developing. The first poster came out how I originally wanted , with few minor changes from comments, making the 14 into a 2014 so viewers could understand it meant a year, i also changed the background shade colour and direction.

The second idea I ended up merging another to it and putting an extra idea I had to it. I think it came out better than they would do alone. With the extra idea to make letters into a crowd looked good and added to the feeling of being in a club raving with the base.

I would of liked to develop my techniques more. So if I was able to do it again I could make it look more detailed. I would of liked to make a logo for the festival to put on to make it look more real.

I would like to find out how to make text and images to fade, as one of my ideas I was unable to do and had to be changed because of it.
i would like to learn how to make the background into a cloudy look instead of the fading.

I think  the posters went well and I have had some good comments. I have had some bad comments which I would liked to of worked on, but sadly enough there wasn’t enough time.

I have made a few changes to both of te posters, mainly my first and final design.

My first one I rearranged everything at first and changed some of the text.

After I changed the background colour and added music bars into the design.

I like the last one the most and made it my final design.

My second poster I didn't change hugely, mainly a rearangement of everything and then after I added in sound bars and changed the fade of the background .

I like my final poster and I think from last week I have improved on it and made it better from my mistakes.

Man made construction art with inspiration from delaunay

I was doing some drawings based around man made constructions like buildings, bridges and landmarks for my art class.

I started off off searching for buildings and bridges and came across a nice picture of a bridge.

What i liked about it was that there was a reflection of the bridge in the ripple of the water.

I chose to do the drawing in pencil and practiced at doing a water ripple effect on a deprecate piece of paper before starting.

When I got a bit into the drawing I thought it looked cool with the fade at the side as there weren't much more with the image on the left.

I went out to my city centre to get some images ( I use some mor of the pics in my final piece ) and got a nice picture of The Coventry Transport Museum at night with all the lights glowing. which is really nice to see, go search it up.

I chose to do this in colour to show the light glowing.

I then found out about an artist called Robert Delaunay who lived in France and did some artwork on the Eiffel Tower.

I really liked one of the paintings he did and had a go at doing it myself.

I was inspired by this piece of artwork and decided to use the style in my final piece of work on man made construction. I used two of my pictures previously taken of a church and one of the flats.

Before starting the drawing I did a simple draft of what I would like it to look like.

This is what I came up with but in my final price I wanted it bigger and brighter and I wanted there to be a bit of originality to it.

This is what I got for my final piece, as you can see I added in more height to include the rest of the tower and more sky to have more behind the two buildings.

If u can notice ( mostly at the top of the tower ) I came up with the idea of the originality to bring out the buildings in a 3D way by using these double sided sticky squares.

The bottom left corner of her artwork which I cut off and drew, I didn't do the full piece.

In this other drawing I wanted to test shading in pencil to have a black and white look. - this is my original piece of work.

This next piece of work I took a picture of a jug, a wine glass and a bottle of wine.

I drew it and copied it making each one overlap one another. I then filled all the spare space with ruler lines to make a cubism effect.

I wanted to do it in colour and chose Red  ( my favourite colour ) and coloured it in with a effect of Dark to light in the colour.

It's a shame that the piece of work was lost when I went to collect my artwork, but it was completed.

Unit 53 2D Animation Production

(Persistence of vision)-it is hard to say when this technique actually started as it is believed the romans had used this on their shields and pottery. The Egyptians also did this to tablets. Even cavemen drew on walls using this technique. That making it one of the earliest technuiqes of animation.

A man called Roget wrote an essay about this in 1824 and because of this, researchers from the 19 century began to work and evolve his theory of the persistence of vision.

The way this works, there are a multiple amount of images, each drawn slightly different than the other. The pictures are then spun around and you start seeing the pictures moving to make the animation.

For example…. The image below shows a bird and a cage on each side of the card, as the person spins the card around it creates an image of the bird inside the cage.

This is the type of technique Eadweard Muybridge used when he made the horse in motion animation shown below.

Eadweard was a photographer and was hired to prove a bet that horses lifted all four legs when they gallop. He then lined up some cameras to take simultaneous pictures of the horse galloping and then put the pictures one after another to make the animation.

At the same point as proving that horses lifted all legs while galloping he also made one of the first motion pictures making him regarded as one of the fathers of motion picture.

Persistance of vision is pretty much an illusion of what our eyes see and make up in between the pictures.

Probably the best way to show and describe it is within text, in the image below there is allot of spelling mistakes but you can still read it. this is because our eyes don't read all the letters but the word altogether and automatically fill in whats wrong.

(Cel Animation)-Theres a few areas in the history of the cel animation technique to look at like Gertie the Dinosaur in 1914 just before the cel technique started.

It was done in a similar way of drawing the image and taking the picture but it was done on one sheet of paper and rubbing out making it very jittery appearance.

The technique was improved later on by the slash and tear system, but then in 1915 the cel animation progress was invented byEarl Hurd and John Bray. The first cel animation to actually make a big name was made by Windsor Mcray called The Sinking of the Luisitania in 1918

In 1928 Micky Mouse Steamboat Willie was made and it was one of the first animations to have a sycronized sounds with the animation.

1937 was also a big part of cel animation when "Snow White" was made with the rotoscoping technique in colour for the first time.

The rotoscoping technique is used for the character movement. They do this by getting an actor to do the movement the character is making and film them doing it, they then use each frame to draw the animated character and when they play it the character moves.

 



(Claymation)-The way this was made is with lots of different clay made people and they are put on a small set and a picture would be taken then the figure would be moved just a tiny bit and then another picture. After hundreds of them have been taken and u play them all after one another they will make a few seconds of movement.

Claymation appeared in in 1921 in Out Of Inkwells "Modelling".
It was only used for a short time but the technique soon becomes big in the world of animation.



In 1986 Aardmans Stephen Johnson and the brothers quay made a music video sledgehammer for peter Gabriel winning many rewards.

Another Aardman animation and probably the most famous produced characters made in clay is Nick Parks Wallice and Gromit.
He has made a few short films and a full length feature with these two iconic characters and has also made another film chicken run.
Nick Park also made a TV show called Creature Comforts.

Evaluation
i feel like i have made a good walk cycle animation and i have had some positive feedback by the viewers who have watched it.

Positive

• It looks smooth
• Layout is good
• Sound is synced 
• People have noticed and like the hidden easter egg i have added into the animation

Negative

• The sound does not go with the surrounding, its more like walking in a corridor and not the woods. (i did get the sound from the corridor)

I myself think it went well, i didn't have any problem other than converting the sound and getting animation on youtube without skipping. these problems where easily fixed with just going to the right place to change the format and by changing the frames by second from 24 to 25.
I would want to change some stuff like the sound of the walking and hopefully get the animation in better quality for youtube once its fully complete.

I have started on making the whole animation and have already completed a title sequence which a few people have seen and given me positive feedback on, It has even made one person say he's going do the same type of thing in his.
